The Most Important Hour Of The Day

It’s been exactly twenty-one days since the last post here on The Waugh Blog. Three weeks where I didn’t blog, tweet, post on Facebook, or even post a picture on Instagram. All of this was done on purpose and over the past three weeks, I discovered the most important hour of the day.

That’s Right, You Heard Correct

I absolutely love reading articles about efficiency, saving time, organization, and how to make the most out of your day. I think it’s pretty important to use the time we’re given wisely.

The past three weeks I specifically changed my regular routine on purpose. I changed what was convenient because I wanted my day based around the most important hour of the day.

Can I Have Your Attention, Please?

Life gets busy. Things get in the way of our schedule. Life happens. And all of the sudden we see our week fly by and feel as if we didn’t get to do anything we intended to do.

With a baby girl coming into our life any day now (whoa), my life will drastically shift from kinda busy to crazy busy with no sleep.

In America today, there are so many things that can distract us from some of the most important things in life.

Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the latest addictive game like Candy Crush, movies at Redbox to TV shows on Netflix, or maybe the latest and best exercise routine for twenty minutes or two hours… everything wants our attention and our time. And I haven’t even mentioned a family or a job yet.

Keeping It Real

Let’s get real. Life comes at you fast. And just because you’re a Christian (or maybe even on staff at a church) doesn’t mean you’re exempt from the busyness of life.

Guess who has two thumbs and got busy? This guy.

Over the past three weeks, I really felt like I had been devoting more time to writing for a blog and reading a good book about God than actually spending time with God.

Have you ever found yourself doing this, too? In the busyness of life, I had forgotten my Creator, my Savior, and my Best Friend. So I took a couple weeks to “keep the main thing the main thing.”

My Soul Thirsts For You

In the book of Psalms, chapter 63, it reads…

O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
    my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
    as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

When I took a long, hard look at my life over the past month, I had forgotten to earnestly seek my God.

Want to know the most important hour of the day?

It was the hour I would set aside each day with no distractions, no phone, no social media, no TV, no routine, and hang out with God. Whether it means that hour is me getting up at 4:00 in the morning with three cups of coffee, 12:00 during my lunch hour, or 10:00 at night after everyone has gone to bed…

My hour with God is the most important hour of the day.

One Hour Prayer Challenge

That’s it. That’s the secret. The most important hour of the day is the hour you spend time with God. And potentially, this hour can change how your day goes, how the rest of your week will go, and actually affect the rest of your life.

But it starts by taking the first step.

A couple weeks ago, I challenged the students at church to take the One Hour Prayer Challenge with me. For the next seven days, take one hour out of each day to pray, read the Bible, journal, and listen to God. One hour every day for seven days.

You may think you don’t have the time to do that commitment. I understand, I really do. But I would say to you that you don’t have the time not to do this. This hour with God is too important.

And you may end up hearing God speak to you like never before.

Will you take the challenge? How do you protect your time with God in the busyness of life? Have you ever caught yourself being too busy and forget the things that are most important?
